Peppermint Digestive Tea

Peppermint Digestive Tea

A simple infusion for digestive comfort. Peppermint has been used for stomach complaints for thousands of years — it's one of the most well-documented herbs for digestive support.

Time: 10 minutes  ·  Yield: 1 cup

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon fresh peppermint leaves (about 8-10 leaves), lightly crushed
  • OR 1 teaspoon dried peppermint
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • Raw honey to taste (optional)

Method

  1. Place the peppermint leaves in a mug or teapot.
  2. Pour boiling water over the leaves.
  3. Cover and steep for 5-10 minutes. Covering is important — the essential oils (menthol) are volatile and will evaporate without a cover.
  4. Strain out the leaves. Let cool slightly, then add honey if desired.
  5. *Suggested use:** After meals for digestive comfort. In the evening as a calming ritual. During nausea or stomach discomfort.
  6. *Digestive blend variation:**
Note: Fresh peppermint is easy to grow — almost too easy. It spreads aggressively, so plant it in a container or a contained area. This tea can also be made as a cold infusion — steep in cold water for 4-8 hours in the fridge for a refreshing summer drink.
