Honey Face Mask
Honey isn't just for eating — it's one of the oldest topical skincare ingredients in recorded history. Cleopatra reportedly used honey and milk baths. Raw honey is hygroscopic (it draws moisture from the air to your skin), naturally antibacterial, and gently exfoliating.
Time: 5 minutes active, 15-20 minutes wearing, 5 minutes removal · Yield: 1 application
Ingredients
- ●1 tablespoon raw honey
- ●1 teaspoon ground turmeric (for brightening — optional, will temporarily tint skin yellow)
- ●1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon (for circulation — optional)
- ●1 teaspoon plain yogurt (for lactic acid — gentle exfoliation)
Method
- Mix all ingredients in a small bowl until smooth.
- Apply to clean, dry skin with your fingers, avoiding the eye area.
- Leave on for 15-20 minutes. It will feel slightly sticky — that's the honey doing its thing.
- Rinse with warm water. Follow with your usual moisturizer.
- *Variations:**
- **Simple glow mask:** Just raw honey — nothing else. Apply, wait 15 minutes, rinse.
- **Oatmeal soothe mask:** 1 tablespoon honey + 1 tablespoon ground oatmeal + 1 teaspoon warm water. Gentle and soothing for sensitive skin.
- **Coffee scrub mask:** 1 tablespoon honey + 1 teaspoon finely ground coffee. Gentle exfoliation + caffeine for circulation.
Note: Do a patch test on your wrist first if you've never used honey topically. The turmeric version will temporarily tint your skin yellow — it fades within an hour. Don't use this right before going out. Manuka honey is especially good for topical use due to its high antibacterial activity.
