Golden Milk (Turmeric Latte)
A warming, anti-inflammatory drink with roots in Ayurvedic tradition. Deeply comforting before bed.
Time: 5 minutes · Yield: 1 serving
Ingredients
- ●240 ml (1 cup) milk of your choice (whole dairy, oat, or coconut)
- ●1 tsp ground turmeric (or 1 Tbsp fresh turmeric, grated)
- ●½ tsp ground cinnamon
- ●¼ tsp ground ginger (or ½ tsp fresh ginger, grated)
- ●Pinch of black pepper (essential — it increases turmeric absorption by up to 2,000%)
- ●1 tsp honey or maple syrup
- ●½ tsp coconut oil or ghee (optional)
Method
- Warm the milk in a small saucepan over medium heat. Don't boil it.
- Whisk in the turmeric, cinnamon, ginger, and black pepper. Continue whisking as it heats to prevent clumps.
- When steaming and hot, remove from heat. Stir in the honey and coconut oil.
- Pour into a mug. Dust the top with a little extra cinnamon.
- *Storage:** Best made fresh. The turmeric paste (turmeric, cinnamon, ginger, pepper mixed with a little water) can be made in a batch and stored in the fridge for 1 week — add 1 tsp paste to warm milk when ready.
